CROSSING LATINIDADES

HUMANITIES RESEARCH INITIATIVE

The Crossing Latinidades Humanities Research Initiative sparks cross-institutional and cross-regional comparative research, doctoral student training, and innovative scholarship in humanities inquiries about U.S. Latinos. Funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the initiative serves as the initial anchor of the consortium of R1 HSIs established and led by the University of Illinois Chicago (2020-2022), which became the Hispanic Serving Research Universities Alliance.

The Initiative fosters new comparative and collaborative research and scholarship through ten Working Groups, advancing knowledge in the humanities. The multi-institutional model of research and training expands opportunities for scholarly training of pre-ABD doctoral students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences working in the field of Latino Studies as they pursue a pathway to the professoriate and professional goals. With this web portal, the initiative links all 21 consortial members, sustaining a lifelong community and network of researchers and scholars.
